Christmas in Melbourne
Melbourne transforms into a festive wonderland for kids, families and the young-at-heart this December as Christmas in Melbourne comes alive.
Details for Christmas 2017 will be confirmed later in the year but annual festive favourites include:
A seasonal extravaganza with a variety of festive treats such as nutcracker soldiers, interactive candy canes and delightful Christmas buskers as well as free photos with Santa. By night, you can visit Santa on Friday evenings, and experience daily sound and light shows from 9.30pm to 11.30pm, creating a very festive atmosphere to the city.
Do you have a sweet tooth? Then make sure to visit Gingerbread Village at Melbourne Town Hall. The pastry team spend over 2,000 hours creating this sweet and spicy food art masterpiece. The gingerbread creations are replicas of some of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks including the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Luna Park and the zoo, all connected by the Christmas train. Thankfully, the pastry chefs will be creating delicious gingerbread treats that can be purchased on site to fulfill your gingerbread cravings that the village will no doubt inspire.
Other Christmas events in Melbourne you should certainly visit include the Thursday Christmas Market held once a week at the Queen Victoria Markets where you can find everything from homewares and edible goodies to artistic decorations and gifts.
If you are in the city after dark make sure to come by the Town Hall and see the Christmas projections illuminate the historic building and turn it into a magical scene that changes before your eyes.
Christmas On High
A beautiful way to view Melbourne in all its festive glory day or night is from the Eureka Skydeck where you have a panoramic view of the city from 88 storeys up. Insider tip, try to time your trip up just before sunset, as then you get to see the view during both day and night and have a spectacular sunset view.
